Recently at a meeting of a Masonic Committee on which I serve, we continued the development of a project that is soon to be released. Not surprising to me, was our continued belief that the main thrust of the project must be its relevance to our membership in order to succeed. As in the past with many of my articles written in this newsletter about our Valley, I again call attention to that little word "relevance."

Wikipedia, defines relevance as "a term used to describe how pertinent, connected, or applicable something is to a given matter. A thing is relevant if it serves as a means to a given purpose". "Given this example, we can generalize and have the following definition: Something (A) is relevant to a task (T) if it increases the likelihood of accomplishing the goal (G), which is implied by T. (Hjorland & Sejer Christensen,2002).

"A thing might be relevant, a document or a piece of information may be relevant. The basic understanding of relevance does not depend on whether we speak of "things" or "information."

So, when we spend our time planning our Masonic activities and events keep that little word in the back of your mind. Perhaps by making them relevant they will be successful.
